Croatia and Slovenia

Zagreb

I spent 2 days in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. The city is very walkable and divided into Lower Town and Upper Town. I started the trip at the central square and Dolac market. Then I took a walking tour of the main sites. I tried some great dishes during my time here, like burek (flaky pastry with various fillings), mlinci (dried flatbread), and knedle (dumpling).

Plitvice Lakes National Park

I spent the day at two national parks on a day tour from Zagreb: Plitvice Lakes & Rastoke Small Group Tour from Zagreb. The park was stunningly beautiful, with the water changing color throughout the day. I highly recommend this trip!

Ljubljana

I spent 3 days in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The city is small but enjoyable to spend a few days in. I walked around the pedestrian streets and popped into many cute shops. I found the food to be quite tasty; some highlights include ričet with klobasa (barley stew with sausage), štruklji (rolled dough with filling), and potica (festive pastry).

Ljubljana day trips

I spent the day at some of the main sites of Slovenia on a day tour from Ljubljana: Slovenia in One Day: Small-Group Day Trip to Lake Bled, Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle from Ljubljana. The Postojna Cave, which is the second longest cave in the world open to the public, had really interesting formations. Although it was very crowded with tourists, it is definitely worth a visit. Predjama Castle was unique, as I had never been to a cave castle before. Lake Bled was beautiful and peaceful to walk around. The famous Bled cream cake was delicious. I also spent half a day in Maribor, Slovenia's second largest city.
