Vietnam
Hanoi
I started the trip in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. I spent around a week in the area, as Hanoi is a good base for trips to Ninh Binh and Halong Bay. I stayed in the Old Quarter, and quickly got used to navigating the chaotic streets. Though I was quite unlucky with the weather (there was a lot of rain, despite the dry season), I had fun exploring the various sights and learning more about Vietnamese culture and history.

The food in Hanoi was a highlight of the trip. Dishes I was familiar with, like pho and banh mi, were incredibly tasty. I was able to try so many dishes I hadn't come across before, like bun cha (meatballs over rice noodles), banh cuon (steamed rice roll), xoi xeo (sticky rice with toppings), ca phe trung (egg coffee), and more!

Halong Bay
Halong Bay was another spot with incredible nature. Sadly, the weather was quite misty but I was still able to enjoy my time here. Phong Nha
Next I flew to Phong Nha, famous for its caves (including the world's largest cave). I hired a boat to go to Phong Nha Cave, which was one of the most beautiful caves I have ever seen. I got pretty unlucky with the weather here (there were many downpours), so I wasn't able to see some of the other famous sites.

Hoi An (and Hue)
I hired a driver to go from Phong Nha to Hoi An with a stop in Hue. In Hue, I got to see the imperial citadel and taste the local dish, bun bo hue. In Hoi An, I walked the main streets and was able to try delicious food such as white rose dumplings, cao lau noodles, and mi quang noodles. I also took a half day tour, Small group My Son Sanctuary at 6 am w. knowledgeable guide.

Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city and most modern in the country, was the last stop of the Vietnam trip. HCMC had a lot of good food and shopping. The War Remnants Museum was very informative and definitely worth a visit. I originally booked the Cai Rang Floating Market & Mekong Delta 2-Day Tour, but had to switch last minute to a 1 day tour. The floating market was really fun to observe, and the boat ride through the Mekong was very relaxing. I recommend doing the 2 day tour if you have the time.
